Dear Partner and Friend,
The Last Year
It has been a year since we left for Haiti and moved into the orphanage compound. It was one of the easiest and yet one of the hardest things we have ever done, as a family and individually. Then to leave, knowing what is there, was even harder. Our home was there, the church was there and our children were there. It has been an interesting year to say the least.
With all the recent talks of recession here in the states, the slow-down in the economy, people wondering how they are going to afford their large house and their daily latte, we can’t seem to forget seeing the houses built out of tin or stone not much larger than a chicken coop with a family of 7-10 living in them; Or the thousands of people walking along the muddy, garbage littered streets in the pouring down rain just trying to get something to eat for their family. On our worst day economically, we in the United States are much better off than millions in Haiti. The reality is that the poor in our country are wealthy compared to most in Haiti. This definitely gives us something to be thankful for this holiday season.
Our Return
Much has happened since our return in January this year. Heather has been working full time at EMIC and I went to work for Jerry Savelle Ministries just south of Fort Worth. What a change of pace it has been. We are enjoying what we are doing and we so honor and respect both of these ministries. They are our spiritual covering in all we do. And, we keep Haiti in our hearts and minds.
Our Calling
I know many of you have asked what we have been doing since we have been back in the United States. No, we have not abandoned our calling to Haiti, nor has it been taken away from us. God has us on specific missions right now and we are continuously striving to fully walk out the plan of God for us. We think about Haiti daily, the streets, the smells, the sounds, the people and most of all the children. God has permanently joined us to the nation of Haiti. We see it changed, prosperous, thriving and BLESSED! God is not a respecter of persons or countries. There are thousands seeking God and He is showing Himself faithful. Join your faith with ours that The Blessing is coming upon Haiti.
Our Short-term Goal
We have been working zealously to finish the adoption of our four girls that began right at a year ago. Our home study is finished and we are waiting on the attorney in Haiti to send us the needed paperwork to submit to the U.S. Immigration department for final approval. Once completed, we send that information back to Haiti, it is submitted to the courts there, we pay the final fees and we go and get the girls. Oh what a sweet day that will be. To spend almost 4 months with them only to leave them there in the orphanage as one of the now 140 children pulls at one’s heart. We have been able to talk with them every so often and we send money to them regularly to help them go to school and be able to have regular meals and water. Things have not been so fortunate for the rest of the children there. We pray God’s protection over them and know that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. We also know He takes precious care of the widows and orphans.
Ministry Highlights
After 10 years of applying for a VISA, our good pastor friend from Haiti, Pastor Jometre, was able to come to the states and stay with us for a long weekend in September. It was the first time he had been to America – or any other nation really. He told us that he has been spending the majority of his time helping the children in the orphanage along with ministering to many of the neighborhood children through monthly youth services and feeding programs.
Through prayer and many hours of talking with Pastor Jometre, we knew that he was to be a part of our ministry as well. We asked him if he would consider serving on our board of directors and he quickly accepted. He is now our Haitian advisor on our board.
Speaking of Go Free Ministries, we are now an IRS 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit corporation, Glory to God! This means that every seed that is sown into GFMI is 100% tax deductible. There is still much to do in and for Haiti and we are strategically targeting the children there. Here is a list of things that are in our scope for the next couple of months:
If you would like to sow into any of these areas, please send your tax-deductable gift to the address below. We are also working to be able to accept credit/debit cards. We will let you know when that is finished. We will send you a tax-deductable receipt and keep you updated monthly on the progress we are making together.
We know that it is faithful friends like you that make what God has called us to possible. We cherish your connection – please keep in touch!
We love you and pray for you often,
Greg Main
