Our Short-term Goal

We have been working zealously to finish the adoption of our four girls that began right at a year ago.  Our home study is finished and we are waiting on the attorney in Haiti to send us the needed paperwork to submit to the U.S. Immigration department for final approval. Once completed, we send that information back to Haiti, it is submitted to the courts there, we pay the final fees and we go and get the girls. Oh what a sweet day that will be.  To spend almost 4 months with them only to leave them there in the orphanage as one of the now 140 children pulls at one’s heart. We have been able to talk with them every so often and we send money to them regularly to help them go to school and be able to have regular meals and water.  Things have not been so fortunate for the rest of the children there.  We pray God’s protection over them and know that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. We also know He takes precious care of the widows and orphans.

Ministry Highlights

After 10 years of applying for a VISA, our good pastor friend from Haiti, Pastor Jometre, was able to come to the states and stay with us for a long weekend in September.  It was the first time he had been to America – or any other nation really.  He told us that he has been spending the majority of his time helping the children in the orphanage along with ministering to many of the neighborhood children through monthly youth services and feeding programs. 

Through prayer and many hours of talking with Pastor Jometre, we knew that he was to be a part of our ministry as well.  We asked him if he would consider serving on our board of directors and he quickly accepted.  He is now our Haitian advisor on our board. 

Speaking of Go Free Ministries, we are now an IRS 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit corporation, Glory to God!  This means that every seed that is sown into GFMI is 100% tax deductible.  There is still much to do in and for Haiti and we are strategically targeting the children there.  Here is a list of things that are in our scope for the next couple of months:

• Pastor Jometre has the opportunity to come back to the states again in December. He will be doing some work in Miami and then we would like to fly him to Texas to meet with us to further cast vision, list some goals and priorities and get him built up spiritually, physically and financially.     Cost: $1,500

• We want to send him back to Haiti with suitcases full of supplies for the children in the orphanage and the children in his outside youth ministry.   Cost: $2,500

• As I stated above, he currently ministers to the outside children about once per month at a cost of $300-500US. He uses his own resources for this which often limits his ability to eat or pay his rent. Go Free Ministries would like to underwrite this outreach monthly.     Cost: $500/mo.

• We would like to fly to the orphanage to minister to the children and encourage them during this difficult time of year. Christmas for us in the U.S. is always exciting with Christmas decorations, music and festive food everywhere, not even considering the gifts that are exchanged by friends and family.  The children there often have not experienced Christmas in any degree and never in the degree that we know it. When the youth of EMIC so generously sent the Christmas gifts last year we were told that in the 34 years the ministry has been in Haiti, the children had never had such a personalized and fulfilling Christmas.  They all received their own stocking filled with age and gender appropriate gifts. What we take for granted here is often not even a consideration there.  They don’t even have family to share it with let alone gifts. They need the love of a mother and father to share with them God’s love and faithfulness. We were parents to them and they still recognize that.      Cost: $4,000

• We are in the process of assisting one of the older girls who has grown up in the orphanage by paying for her school fees & supplies, helping her to get her VISA, visit the states and become more educated in ministering to the children in Haiti. She is 22 years old, is in the process of finishing school, works and lives at the orphanage, and wants to come to work for GFMI full-time.  She is intelligent and quite motivated and she speaks English quite well.  We plan to use her as a spoken translator (which she did for us quite often while we were there) as well as in song (she has the voice quality of Disney singers).   Short-term Cost: $2,200

• We also support a few of the orphanage children monthly helping with school costs and needed supplies.  We would like to assist more of them with the basic supplies (monthly fees, books, etc.) so their education can continue unhindered.  Only about 20% of Haiti’s children finish secondary school. Without schooling it is almost impossible to get employment. That is one reason why over 50 of the children living in this orphanage are over 16 years old – some are even in their late 20s and still trying to finish school.                                   Approximate Cost: $ 1,000/mo
